Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc. and Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. have introduced the world’s first hydrogen-cartridge-powered vending machine, showcased at the Osaka-Kansai Expo in April 2025. This innovative proof-of-concept vending machine operates off-grid by generating its own power through a fuel cell and a replaceable hydrogen cartridge. It boasts zero emissions and enhanced energy efficiency compared to traditional models. While currently not available for widespread commercial sale, the machine’s design offers flexibility for placement and uninterrupted service during outages, demonstrating significant environmental benefits.
